We Value Parental Involvement

We are all parents and we all have priorities.  Trust us when we say we understand fully how busy schedules can become.  But, we also just happen to believe kids - ours as well as others - rank pretty high on the priority list.

Thus, the troop encourages parental involvement in some form or fashion with their Scouts because our experience tells us boys with involved parents are more likely to be successful in Scouting and in life.

We fully understand when work or other obligation takes us away from a campout but we have many parents in our troop family to take over so our kids can go on these outings and adventures.

Does that mean we need you to go camping and backpacking with us?  No, but we'd love having you along.  We can use parents in many roles - such as merit badge counselors or attending district meetings or teaching skills like first aid or preparing refreshments for special occasions or helping with fund raisers or transportation to/from places.

Do we reject boys whose parents cannot or will not get involved? No, absolutely not.  However, it is disheartening to see unrealized potential in a boy that only a parent's loving involvement can bring out. We believe even if only one parent is active, a Scout is very likely to (in his tenure with us):

  • camp 50 or more nights
  • stay in Scouting 4 to 5 years
  • attend at least 3 week-long summer camps
  • go on 1 challenging one high adventure trip
  • want to earn and work toward Eagle Scout
  • want to earn a religious award of their faith
  • continue on with Scouting when he turns 18 as an adult leader
  • encourages Scouting for his boys when he becomes a father
